Unlike the modern Oktoberfest tents, the Festzelt Tradition strives to preserve the atmosphere of Oktoberfests from yesteryears. Here are some key highlights that set this tent apart:

Festzelt Tradition Beer 

This iconic festival tent proudly serves Augustiner beer, poured fresh from traditional wooden barrels into cool steins mug. Its rich, malty flavor is the perfect complement to classic Bavarian dishes. For those seeking something different, wheat beer is also available exclusively in the Franziskaner-Weißbiergarten.

The Menu

At Festzelt Tradition, food and drink are integral to the overall experience. The menu features a range of traditional Bavarian dishes, including hearty favorites like:

  • Oktoberfest Special: Enjoy artisan rye bread topped with fresh chopped chives, a savory Bavarian cheese spread, and rich bacon lard. Savor a succulent chicken, perfectly roasted on a spit for a truly authentic experience.
  • Munchen Special: Delight in a hearty beef broth accompanied by tender meat strudel. Follow it with roast pork smothered in rich gravy, served with a traditional potato dumpling for a satisfying Bavarian meal.
  • Bavaria Special: Indulge in a platter of assorted spreads and crisp radishes, served with rustic farmhouse rye bread. For the main course, savor a succulent roast pork knuckle, generously covered in rich gravy and accompanied by both potato and bread dumplings for a truly traditional feast.
  • Kurfurst Max: Start with an appetizer board featuring Bavarian cheese spread, herbal creamy cheese, black smoked ham, crisp radishes, and a fresh pretzel. For the main course, enjoy a Bavarian roast duck, served with rich gravy, tender potato dumplings, and savory red cabbage.

Festzelt Music and Dance

Traditional brass music is performed under the direction of Wolfgang Grünbauer, with guest bands from various regions taking the stage twice daily around 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.. Traditional costume groups showcase their dances on the floor. Music begins early in the tent at 11:00 a.m. Each day features different costume groups, offering a varied and engaging traditional program.

Opening Hours and Reservation

The festival tent is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., with the last beer served at 10:30 p.m. The Wiesn tent grounds close at midnight. Evenings and Weekends are the peak hours when most of the visitors come to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere

Due to the tent’s high popularity, reservations are strongly recommended and can be made online. Payment options include Bear, Maestro, VISA, and Mastercard. Tables can accommodate more than 10 people at a time. However, if you leave the table, your seat may be forfeited, even if your reservation time has not yet expired.

Festzelt Seating Capacity

With seating for 5,000 guests inside and 2,700 outside in the beer garden, reservations are not permitted in the outdoor area. The Oide Wiesn tent also offers special seating arrangements for families and disabled individuals, with accommodation available upon request.

Location & Accessibility 

Located in the southern part of the Theresienwiese grounds munich, Festzelt Tradition is easily accessible by Munich’s efficient public transport. Visitors can arrive by taking the U-Bahn to the Theresienwiese station or using local buses that stop near the entrance.
